Ferdinand is free...although when I left him he was still sitting comfortably in his container on his favorite rock. I envisioned him leaping out as he would when I would lift the cover to mist the soil. It's still fairly light out so I imagine as Tree Frogs are nocturnal creatures he may just wait to move until he can do so at dusk or when it's dark. We will miss this little peanut and hope he stays safe while readjusting to the wild natural world he belongs in. What an amazing little animal he is and what a gift it was to have him in our lives. Yesterday morning we found Ferdinand sitting on so

Yesterday morning we found Ferdinand sitting on some solar lights I have charging on a nearby bookcase. I gently returned him to the plant. This morning he was back out on the light boxes. Clearly hibernation is over and he's on the move. It's still too cold out at night for a safe release and not looking good for 45+ degrees night temps anytime soon. He's extremely disinterested in my explanations about why he needs to hang in there for another week. I put him back in the plant hoping he'd stay put. That was a total bust. He jumped out and back onto the shelf. So I initiated plan B. I got a box, filled it with damp leaf litter, covered it with clear plastic (for his own protection) moved it from the balmy Bahamian office environment and into the basement. I'll set him tomorrow in the box to start getting him acclimated to cooler temps then bring him in overnight when it dips down to the mid 30's. This will help avoid shock.
